CHELYABINSK, February 24 (Itar-Tass) – The restoration works after a meteorite shower in the Chelyabinsk Region have been fulfilled by 78%, the press centre of the regional emergency situation department told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“The emergency headquarters to clean up the aftermaths of the natural disaster in the Chelyabinsk Region summed up the results of the restoration works today. As of February 24, the amount of restoration works reached 78%. The radiation level is normal,” the press centre said.
“The emergency task force and the teams of volunteers continue to help local people and put new glass in the windows at the social facilities. From the start of the works, new glass was installed in the windows in 5,709 buildings, including 4,794 residential houses, 187 medical institutions, 609 educational institutions, 19 social facilities and 79 cultural facilities. A total of 2,356 window frames were removed, new glass was put on 10,852 square metres of windows, 163 tonnes of glass was delivered and unloaded, 640 cubic metres of building garbage was cleaned up,” the press centre reported.
The meteorite shower was reported in the morning on February 15 in five Russian regions, namely Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan regions and Bashkortostan.
After the meteorite fall in the Chelyabinsk Region about 1,500 people turned for medical aid, including 311 children. The shockwave in this region partially broke down the windows in 4,715 buildings, including 3,724 residential houses, where 100,000 families live. As many as 671 educational institutions, 235 health care institutions, 11 social security facilities, 69 cultural facilities, five centres of physical culture and sports were partially damaged among the social facilities. The preliminary material damages are estimated at one billion roubles.
By February 25 all the works to clean up the aftermaths of the meteorite fall in the Chelyabinsk Region are to be finalized, Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov said earlier at a meeting of the governmental committee. “On February 25, we will finalize all the work in the emergency situation area,” he noted.
The minister noted that by this date not only the power utilities and communication lines, but also the postal services and the health care institutions should work stably. People should get all the necessary aid, which they need. Meanwhile, he urged to redistribute the forces and focus on the private housing sector so that “the help came to a person freely, but not a person will be searching for it.”
