KRASNOGORSK, Moscow region, February 23 (Itar-Tass) – The creation of the Earth’s meteorite shield can unite mankind, Vice-Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said.
At the meeting with supporters of the Rodina party and the Congress of Russian Communities on Saturday, Rogozin said, “Now we’re discussing the tasks that could unite mankind in the face of a common enemy.”
Rogozin explained that the existing aerospace defence system “cannot discover meteorites, which approach the Earth, because it tracks missile launches from the Earth”, the vice-prime minister said.
“A monitoring system can be created only in cooperation with other countries. However it is insufficient to know about the danger. It should be prevented. And technical solutions are indispensable,” Rogozin said.
The great space powers, including Russia, “will be able to make contribution to developing technology and programmes, which are being worked out. These can be nuclear propelling systems, for example more powerful launch vehicles”, Rogozin stressed.
