MOSCOW, February 21 (Itar-Tass) – Moscow’s Bassmanny District Court will consider on Thursday an absentee arrest of Georgia’s politician Givi Targamadze, the court’s press secretary Ekaterina Korotova told Itar-Tass.
“The court has received an application from the investigator about selecting for Targamadze a detention measure as remand in custody in absentia, she said.”
Moscow police have put on the federal wanted list Givi Targamadze who is accused in the case of the preparation of riots in Russia, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry’s main department for Moscow told Itar-Tass.
Earlier, the Moscow police put Targamadze on the federal wanted list, and entered information about him in the integrated electronic database of wanted persons. A search case had been opened against former head of the Defence and Security Committee of the Georgian parliament Givi Targamadze within which a complex of search operations are being conducted that are also aimed at establishing all his business and personal ties in Russia. The Russian Investigative Committee (SK) charged Targamadze in absentia under the criminal case over the preparation of riots in Russia, the other defendants in which are the Left Front’s coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, his aide Konstantin Lebedev and aide to a State Duma deputy - Leonid Razvozzhayev.
The SK explained that due to the fact that Targamadze is a foreign citizen, the investigation earlier could not name him as defendant, without finding out if he has any immunity. The RF Investigative Committee received an official answer that Targamadze had no immunity from criminal prosecution.
The case over the preparation of riots in Russia was opened after the release of the film “Anatomy of a Protest-2,” in which Udaltsov, Lebedev and Razvozzhayev were talking to head of the Georgian parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security Targamadze and discussed the preparation of mass riots and financing them from abroad.
On January 10, the SK consolidated this case with the case of the Bolotnaya Square riots in Moscow. The Bolotnaya Square case – over mass disorders and resisting police - was initiated after the events of May 6, 2012, when the authorised by the authorities opposition rally in Bolotnaya Square in Moscow turned into clashes with police and rioting. On that day, more than 400 people were detained for wrongful acts were detained, about 30 policemen and dozens of civilians were injured. There are a total of 19 defendants in the Bolotnaya Square riots case, one suspect is wanted.
