ST. PETERSBURG, February 19 (Itar-Tass) – Fifteen young men were detained in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg for taking part in a mass brawl, a police source told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
According to preliminary data, about 20 men were involved in the brawl, the causes of which are being established. Four were hospitalized. “Policemen recovered a knife, a baseball bat, two non-lethal handguns and short-gun cartridge cases,” the source said.
The incident took place at 21:30 Moscow time near the Chistye Prudy caf· in Dimitrov Street.
An investigation is underway. “By now it has been established that there were no national motives behind the conflict. All its participants are from one of the Trans-Caucasian republics,” according to a police statement. Local media say they were people of the Azeri origins.
