MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State John Kerry to a possible bilateral meeting, a Russian foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday. Lavrov and Kerry also touched upon the situation in Syria and North Korea’s nuclear problem.
“The Russian foreign minister and the United States secretary of state exchanged views on the problem of the Syria settlement with a special emphasis on the necessity to put an end to violence by all parties and launch a dialogue between the government and the opposition,” the spokesman said. “On the initiative of the Russian side, they discussed the situation in Northeast Asia in the context of a recent nuclear test in North Korea.”
“The minister and the secretary of state agreed to stay in contact on these and other issues of the international agenda and bilateral relations, including a possible personal meeting in the nearest future,” the spokesman noted.
