BERLIN, February 14 (Itar-Tass) – German doctors say they will save the eyesight to Sergei Filin, the artistic director of Bolshoi’s ballet company, who is undergoing treatment in Germany for serious burns to his face and eyes, Professor Peter Walter of the University Clinic of Aachen said.

The professor said that Filin would not go blind. After an operation that last for several hours doctors managed to restore most of the cornea on Filin’s left eye. “He will be able to see much better with this eye tomorrow,” head doctor Martin Hermel said. However, the doctors didn’t make any forecasts for Filin’s right eye.

Sergei Filin, the 42-year-old People’s Artist of Russia, was attacked outside his home in Moscow late on January 17. An unknown person threw acid in his face and escaped. Filin was hospitalized with serious burns to his face and eyes. He underwent several surgeries in a Moscow hospital and now continues treatment in Germany.
