MOSCOW, February 14 (Itar-Tass) – According to the preliminary reports, the blast power of a bomb, which was detonated at a road police post in the Dagestani city Khasavyurt on Thursday, reached 100-120 kilograms of TNT, spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee (SK) Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.
“The detectives found that the bomb with striking pieces was planted in the car by unidentified bandits, who seized a car from a local private taxi driver under the threat of guns overnight to February 14, 2013,” Markin said.
He noted that experienced criminal experts from the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigation Committee in the North-Caucasus Federal District rushed to the suicide bomb attack site to assist in the investigation.
The detectives found that during the check of the car the driver detonated a bomb with a large explosion power at about 05:00 Moscow time on Thursday on the road leading to Khasavyurt from Makhachkala. Three policemen were killed, six more policemen were hospitalized with different wounds and a policeman is reported missing after the suicide bomb attack. The road police post and police cars were massively damaged. The bomb blast has created a hole up to four metres in diameter and up to 1.5 metres deep. According to the preliminary reports, the bomb power reached 100-120 kilograms of TNT. Injured and killed policemen were on a service mission from the Volgograd regional police department.
Civil casualties were averted in a terrorist act thanks to the vigilance of the police at a road police post in Khasavyurt, the Dagestani Interior Ministry reported earlier.
The explosion at the road police post in Khasavyurt was found to be a terrorist act. The criminal case was opened for the crimes under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code for a terrorist act, Article 317 for an attempt on the life of law enforcers, Article 222 for illegal circulation of weapons and Article 223 for illegal making of explosive devices.
