VLADIVOSTOK, February 13 (Itar-Tass) - Radiation background data come in every hour to the regional data analysis center here from automatic sensors installed at meteorological stations in Barabash and Posyet Settlements, Khasan District of the Primorsky Territory (PT) and in the city of Vladivostok.

An official at the Territorial hydrometeocenter has told Itar-Tass that the recorded level of radiation background recorded at the stations varies within a range of 10-12 micro-roentgen/hour, with the norm being up to 30 mcr/hr.

"According to the data of radiation monitoring in PT, the indicators do not exceed the natural (radiation) background. As of 01:00, Moscow time, on Feb 13, the raditation background was 14 mcr/hr," the press service of the PT regional center of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies reported.

A close monitoring of the radiation background was introduced Tuesday following a nuclear test conducted in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The PT is Russia's only region which neighbours on the DPRK. The 18-km border runs in Khasan District, in theTerritory's south. The port settlements of Zarubino, Posyet, and Slavyanka are Russia's populated areas which are most close to the border. The largest city in the area - Vladivostok - is located at a distance of over 100 km from the border with the DPRK.

Northerly and north-westerly winds currently predominate the PT (the DPRK is situated to the south of Primorye). In the coming 24 hours, weather in Primorye will be affected by a cyclone which came from the hinterland from the direction of Yakutia.
