MOSCOW, February 9 (Itar-Tass) – Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Maxim Nikulin had been proposed a low rental payment for the Old Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

Sobyanin told Itar-Tass, “The rental payment was dropped, but the term expired. Now we’ve decide to establish the initial rental payment – one rouble for one square metre.”

“We don’t intend to offend Nikulin. This is the technical problem,” the Moscow mayor said.

“Such institutions should have a minimal rental payment.” He noted that at present, the city used budget funds for certain non-commercial organisations. “If an institution pays off and if it doesn’t need anything, besides a minimal rental rate, it will be necessary to help it,” Sobyanin said.

Earlier, Nikulin told journalists that the Moscow Mayor’s Office “made me an offer and I can’t refuse because it is super-generous”. He also added that this problem should be finally solved by the Moscow city government on Tuesday, February 12.

The scandal broke out after Nikulin said the rental payment increased more than twofold “to 90 million roubles per year instead of 40 million roubles”. In his words, it turned out to be that the Nikulin Circus would leave Russia.
