YEREVAN, February 9 (Itar-Tass) – Armenia’s security services on Thursday evening detained two suspects in the assassination attempt against presidential candidate Paruyr Airikian, committed in the small hours of February 1, a source in the law enforcement told Itar-Tass.

One of the eight contenders for Armenia’s presidency, Airikian suffered a bullet wound in the collarbone. He was attacked in front of his apartment building in the center of Yerevan. He was operated on in the morning. Surgeons extracted a 7.62 mm bullet. A criminal case was opened over the assassination attempt. A joint team of the national security agency and police is investigating the attack.

“I cannot say much at this point, but the investigation is on,” Airikian said on his page in the Facebook social network. “The wound is healing, but it is still aching. My right hand does not work. Last night I got two injections of a painkiller before I could have some sleep. It hurts real bad.”
