PARIS, February 5 (Itar-Tass) – Russia will adjust its adoptions agreement with France, in case the latter legalizes homosexual marriages, speaker of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house Sergei Naryshkin, who is here on a working visit, said on Tuesday.
“Now corresponding government structures in charge of adoptions issues in both countries work in harmony,” he told journalists. “Neither we, nor the French side have any claims to each other.”
When asked whether a new adoptions agreement with France will be needed in case its parliament finally passes the law legalizing homosexual marriages and allowing such couples to adopt children, Naryshkin said that if it comes that way, “it will be necessary to take into account legislative norms of both Russia and France.”
In the mean time, chairperson of the Duma committee for family, women and children’s affairs Elena Mizulina told journalists that it would not be a new agreement. According to Mizulina, the current agreement in this case will be amended and these amendments will be subject to ratification of both parliaments as well.
