CARACAS, February 4 (Itar-Tass) - President Hugo Chavez is successfully convalescing, Diosdado Cabello, Chairman of the National Assembly of Venezuela, said in the city of Cumana on Sunday. Cabello returned from Havana where the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution is recovering after an operation to remove a cancerous tumour.

"The process of rehabilitation of the Comandante is evolving slowly but steadily," the Parliament Speaker said. "The President is embracing the Venezuelan people and thanks them for the numerous hearty manifestations of love and kindness", the Speaker pointed out.

During Cabello's visit to the Havana clinic, "The President signed important documents and gave instructions about decisions which must be made by the (United Socialist) party and the government", the Speaker added.

Last Friday,Venezuelan Vice-President Nicolas Maduro, the acting Head of State, said, "The post-operaive cycle of Hugo Chavez is over and he entered a new phase of treatment".
