Russia seeks to further strengthen relations with Morocco - Margelov

The senator recalled that Russia “has always provided support for development in African and Arab countries”

RABAT, February 1 (Itar-Tass) – Russia and Morocco have strong relations and Moscow seeks to further develop them, using opportunities for cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres, Russia’s envoy for Africa, Mikhail Margelov, said after a meeting with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Saad Eddine El Othmani on Thursday.

The meeting focused on regional and international issues.

The senator recalled that Russia “has always provided support for development in African and Arab countries.”

El Othmani said in turn that “Morocco and Russia have excellent relations and the two countries seek their further development.”

The declaration on strategic partnership signed in 2002 is of special importance in relations between Moscow and Rabat, he said.

“We discussed different issues of mutual interest, in particular, political reforms in Morocco and the situation in Mali,” El Othmani said.

Margelov’s visit to Morocco provided an opportunity for discussing the ways for stronger bilateral cooperation, the diplomat said.
