Six Russians affected by bus accident still in hospitals in France

A part of the tourists who got into the accident took a chartered flight to Moscow from Grenoble Saturday

PARIS, January 20 (Itar-Tass) – A total of six Russian citizens, who were injured in a major road accident in southeast France Saturday, continue getting treatment at French hospitals, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in France told Itar-Tass.

He pointed out the absence of any risks for their lives at present.

“A total of six Russians are currently staying at medical institutions in Chambery and Grenoble, and one more person was released from hospital earlier today and is now staying at a hotel,” the diplomat said.

Taking care of the injured tourists are four Russian citizens from among their close relatives and all of them plan returning home sometime this week.

“It’s difficult to make any more precise forecasts right now,” the diplomat said. “The case in hand is traumas of various degrees of complexity but there’s absolutely no risk for their lives now.”

The road accident that involved the Russians occurred Saturday morning in the southeast Savoy department when a bus belonging to a local logistics company overturned while carrying a group of Russian mountain skiers from a ski resort to Grenoble airport.

“The driver lost control of the bus and it went into a skid and fell on its side,” an official at Savoy prefecture said. “There were no fatalities.”

Diplomats at the Russian embassy confirmed that all the 43 passengers on bus were Russian citizens. A part of the tourists who got into the accident took a chartered flight to Moscow from Grenoble Saturday.

One more group was expected in Moscow late night Sunday. After that, only the tourists still taking treatment at hospitals will stay back in France.
