KAZAN, January 18 (Itar-Tass) — The Supreme Court of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan satisfied a request from the detectives and extended the term in arrest for two defendants in the wreckage case of the motorship Bulgaria, namely sub-renter of the ship and general director of the company Agrorechtour Svetlana Inyakina and head of the Kazan department of the Volga regional branch of the Russian transport watchdog Irek Timergazeyev. The term in arrest was extended for them until March 10, the press service of the court told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“The term of their arrest will expire on February 10, the extension of their arrest is caused by the need for making an indictment,” the court explained.

The detectives also asked the court to extend the arrest to another two defendants, namely senior expert of the Kama River branch of the Russian river-going ship registry Yakov Ivashov and chief state inspector of the Kazan branch of the Russian transport watchdog Vladislav Semenov.

Five people, including aide to the Bulgaria captain Ramil Khametov, were brought to justice in this criminal case. They are charged with the services, which do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers, the violation of the safety rules to steer the inland water transport, as well as the labour protection rules and the abuse of their powers.

The detectives found that the scope of all actions of the defendants caused the wreckage of the motorship Bulgaria on July 10, 2011 in the Kuibyshev dam lake that killed 122 people, who were onboard the motorship (only 79 passengers and crewmembers were saved).

The term of investigation was extended until March 10, 2013 before.

“All defendants, except for Timergazeyev, completed to study the criminal case files,” the Russian Investigation Committee said earlier. The court limited the term to study the criminal case files to Timergazeyev until January 25.

Head of the Tatar investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee Aidar Galiyev said earlier that the defendants completed the study with the criminal case files that make 100 volumes. Over 200 injured parties have already finalized the study with the criminal case files. The criminal case will be submitted in the Tatar prosecutor’s office to approve the indictment and pass it in the court already in February, he said.
