MOSCOW, January 16 (Itar-Tass) — The suspect in the kidnapping and murder of little boy Bogdan Prakhov, 5, in the outskirts of the town Petushki last June was detained in the Vladimir Region, spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
“On the strength of the evidence gathered in this criminal case a Petushki resident and mentally disabled person Sergei Kozlov, 35, was detained on the suspicions of murder and kidnapping of the little boy,” Markin said.
The kidnapping and murder of Bogdan Prakhov, 5, stirred up a massive public response and shocked the society. The child was kidnapped from the countryside community Mir on June 19, 2012, when he was riding a bike. On the next day the boy was found dead with the traces of violent death in the park.
The investigation in the criminal case was put under personal control of the chairman of the Russian Investigation Committee.
“Since the crime was not solved hot on the traces of the killer, the detectives and the security services were investigating the main versions of the murder round the clock. During the investigation on the strength of the testimony of the witnesses an identity kit was made up, the psychological portrait of the suspected killer was made,” Markin noted.
He noted that the search was made at the murder scene, particularly with the photo recording from the helicopter, investigative experiments were staged with the witnesses and the children, who witnessed Bogdan’s kidnapping, the details of the crime were exposed.
“Over 20,000 people were interrogated, including people with previous convictions for the crimes against personality and sex inviolability that were on the psychiatric and drug addiction register, as well as people inclined to illegal actions,” Markin said.
Moreover, when the murder of Bogdan Prakhov was solved the Russian Investigation Committee and the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Interior Ministry initiated unprecedented measures to search for the suspected killer throughout Russia. “The detectives and criminal experts sent over 2,000 orders to fulfil the investigative actions in Russian federal constituents,” Markin said.
Over 60 criminal expertises were conducted during the investigation, he said.
“The CCTV camera records and the records of the telephone talks were examined at the crime scene. With the assistance of the specialists from the central staff of the Russian Investigation Committee the data was obtained in the investigative actions that permitted to identify the killer,” Markin said.
The detectives obtained the information that the genome of a local resident coincides with the sweat and greasy traces, which were taken from the clothes of the killed boy.
