Dagestan’s Supreme Court judge shot dead in Makhachkala

MAKHACHKALA, January 15 (Itar-Tass) – Judge of Dagestan’s Supreme Court Magomed Magomedov was assassinated in Makhachkala, the capital city of this volatile Caucasian republic, on Tuesday, a spokesman for the republican administration of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass.

According to the spokesman, the fatal incident took place at 21:10 Moscow time in the very centre of Makhachkala. An unidentified person made several shots at the judge from a handgun and fled the scene. Magomedov died instantly.

An investigation is underway. According to a preliminary theory, Magomedov was killed due to professional motives. His recent cases included the ones linked with crimes committed by members of militant groups active in the republic.
