CHEBOKSARY, January 15 (Itar-Tass) — Chuvashia’s branch of Russia’s Investigative committee opened a criminal case on the gas explosion, which killed two people.

Senior Aide to Head of the republic’s branch of the Investigative Committee Oleg Dmitriyev told Itar-Tass on Tuesday the case had been opened in compliance with part 3 article 219 of Russia’s Criminal Code “Violation of fire security requirements, which causes death of two or more people.” Those responsible may face a term of up to seven years and may not be allowed to be employed at certain spheres for term of three years.

A domestic gas explosion occurred in a three storey apartment building in the village of Tuvsi, the Tsivilsky district, at 05:40 Moscow time.

Investigators report about found two bodies: that of a woman born in 1950 and of a young man born in 1996. Two injured were taken to hospital.

According to the Emergencies Ministries, three people were trapped under the rubble. Six others were slightly injured.

The ministry reports about 64 rescuers and 31 vehicles working on the site of the accident. The rescuers evacuated 30 residents. They were accommodated in a school and a kindergarten. They receive necessary medical and psychological support.

Rescue teams from Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod are on their way to assist their colleagues on the site.

Chuvashia’s investigators question witnesses, and after the rescue operation is over they will inspect the site. The investigators will conduct necessary research to find out reasons for the explosion.
