GORKI, January 14 (Itar-Tass) — Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev instructed Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets to organise, within the shortest time possible, the implementation of the presidential decree on the protection of orphans.
At a traditional meeting with his deputies on Monday, January 17, Medvedev stressed that the issue of adoptions had raised a tremendous public reaction in society late last year, and it still continues.
“Different opinions were expressed, which is not surprising, but what everyone agrees to – both those who criticise laws and those who support them – is that we should solve this problem in the country in principle. I mean the problem of orphans,” the prime minister said.
He said this would mean not only creating conditions for placing children in families but also ensuring order in children’s homes.
The so-called Dima Yakovlev Law, which entered into force on January 1, contains different measures of social support to those who have decided to adopt a child.
Medvedev stressed that the problem should be solved “comprehensively”.
