MOSCOW, January 13 (Itar-Tass) – Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated journalists on their professional holiday – the Day of Russian Press, the government’s press service said on Sunday.

“The fulfillment of fundamental democratic rights and freedoms of citizens, peace and harmony in our country to no small degree depends on the work of the media,” Medvedev emphasized.

“Daily news, analytical materials that are published in the press, placed on the internet, broadcast on radio and TV in many respects shape the outlook of people and what is especially important – they reflect most different positions, help resolve concrete problems,” according to the message.

“Journalism is justly considered a special profession that requires talent and mastership and sometimes personal courage,” he wrote. “Contribution of each of you is very important for modern development of our society and country.”
