VLADIKAVKAZ, January 13 (Itar-Tass) – Traffic on the Georgian Military Road, a major automobile artery linking Russia and the countries of South Caucasus – Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, was restored, a spokeswoman for North Ossetia’s Emergencies Ministry, Yulia Starchenko, told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“Soon after weather conditions in Georgia normalized, a risk of road accidents reduced and opportunities for safe traffic were created, a decision was taken to open the Vladikavka-Lars section in both directions without any restrictions,” she said.

At present, both highways linking Russia and the Caucasus – the Georgian Military Road and the Transcaucasian highway – operate in a normal mode.

Earlier this week both highways were closed over high avalanche hazard.
