MOSCOW, January 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Three persons died and one was injured in a fire that broke out in a penitentiary in the Vologda region in northwest of Russia, a spokesman for the regional emergencies department told Itar-Tass on Monday.
According to the spokesman, the accident took place in penitentiary number 17 in the village of Sheksna. “A total of 50 prisoners were evacuated. Four were hospitalized with combustion products intoxication. Three of them later died,” the spokesman said.
The fire was extinguished in 40 minutes. “The fire started at the electric switchboard room. It was caused by a short circuit in wires,” the spokesman added.he accident took place in penitentiary number 17 in the village of Sheksna.
