NALCHIK, January 7 (Itar-Tass) — In Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic (KBR), security forces on Sunday night killled three unidentified men who put up an armed resistance in reply to a demand to produce identity papers, a source in the KBR's law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass.

"At about 20:00, Moscow time, on Sunday, on the outskirts of Dugulubgei Village, security personnel sought to stop a GAZel motor vehicle to check identity papers. However, those inside the vehicle opened fire at security personnel who returned the fire and killed three men inside. Among security forces, noone was hurt," the source said. As a result of the exchange of fire, the GAZel exploded and caught fire, the source pointed out. "This hampers identification of the bodies," the source said.

A Kalashnikov autiomatic rifle, two pistols, and ammunition were found at the scene of the incident.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted under RF Penal Code articles referring to "Encroachment on the life of members of law enforcement personnel" and "Illegal circulation of weapons".
