SOCHI, January 5 (Itar-Tass) — Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has instructed to comply with a schedule to prepare the facilities of the Olympic Games-2014 in Sochi.
“Of course, this issue cannot be discussed: the 2013 schedule should be implemented in full,” Medvedev said at a meeting devoted to test events at the Olympic facilities in Sochi in 2013.
“It took just over one year, but much should be done,” the prime minister said.
He stressed that the success of the Olympic Games and Russia’s prestige depended on the construction of these facilities. “That is why the commissioning of sportive facilities and the infrastructure, as well as the test events is our strategic priority,” Medvedev noted.
The prime minister emphasised that everything should be built “comfortably and safely”.
At the same time, he said many sportive facilities had been put into operation. “For us it is very important that the International Olympic Committee gave a positive assessment,” Medvedev said, adding that the most serious examination should be passed in 2013.
He recalled that the test events would take place at 10 Olympic facilities at the mountain and coastal cluster. “This is not a simple full rehearsal. In effect this will be the real Olympic Games that is why all should be at the high level,” Medvedev said.
In his words, last year a total of 44 facilities were fully put into operation. “However, the construction of several facilities lag the timeframe,” Medvedev said.
