Lada car sales in Russia go down by 7% in 2012

SAMARA, January 3 (Itar-Tass) —— Sales of Lada cars in Russia went down by approximately seven percent in 2012 as compared with the year 2011, the press centre of AVTOVaz, the manufacturer of these cars, said in a release on Wednesday.

Thus, a total of 537,625 Lada cars were sold domestically throughout 2012. In 2011, Lada sales totaled 578,387 cars, or up by 10.6 percent on 2010.

“An average of 44,800 Lada cars were sold a month in 2012, or 61 cars per hour,” the press centre said.

The 2012 Lada car exports reached 70,580. Thus, the overall Lada sales stood at 608,205 cars.

The best selling Lada model of the year was Lada Priora. As many as 125,951 Priora cars were sold in 2012. The best selling model of 2011 was Lada Kalina, with sales amounting to 142,930.

AVTOVaz is Russia’s biggest car manufacturers and one of the biggest ones in Europe. AVTOVaz production capacities are designed to manufacture about 800,000 cars a year. Since 1970, the plant has put out more than 27 million cars. In 2012, AVTOVaz launched the production of motor vehicles for Nissan, thus becoming a multi-brand manufacturer.
