Thailand police detain three suspects in rapes of Russian tourists

The expert examination has proved that at least one of the detained was responsible for sexual assaults against Russian women

BANGKOK, January 2 (Itar-Tass) — Thailand’s police detained three suspects in rapes of Russian tourists in the resort city of Pattaya on December 25, press secretary of the Russian embassy in the Kingdom, Vitaly Anopov, told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“Now all the suspects are behind the bars, and the court will start soon,” he said. “During the detention, the police confiscated weapons, which the suspects had used in their crimes. The expert examination has proved one of the detained was responsible for sexual assaults against Russian tourists.”

On December 25, three men in Thailand’s Pattaya, threatened with weapons and made two tourists from Russia get into their car, and took them to a park, where they beat up the women, took their money and cell phones, raped and left there. Local residents helped the women to contact the authorities, after what the women were taken to hospital in Pattaya. The local authorities and the Kingdom’s police paid special attention to the investigation of the crime.
