LVOV, December 27 (Itar-Tass) - A suicide bomber who on Thursday blew himself up in one of the buildings of the Bukovinian State Medical University is believed to have had a row with one of the University professors over a private land plot in the gardening cooperative, the press service of the Chernovtsy regional prosecutor’s office reports.
Prosecutors have launched a pre-trail investigation.
In the meantime, the State Border Service of Ukraine on Thursday denied media reports that the suicide bomber was a former border guard.
The explosion roared through the University’s academic building on Thursday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, the 62-year-old local resident blew up an explosive device fixed on his body. Police in Chernovtsy told Itar-Tass that they knew the name of the suicide bomber but were keeping it secret in the interests of investigation.
The man himself died in the blast. A student and a professor were wounded.
"In connection with media reports that a former border guard could be linked to the explosion at the Medical University in Chernovtsy, the State Border Service of Ukraine would like to state the following. According to preliminary checking and reports received by the Service, a person who staged the explosion in an educational establishment in Chernovtsy has got nothing to do with the State Border Service,” the State Border Service of Ukraine said in a statement received by the Itar-Tass office in Chernovtsy.
