MOSCOW, December 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Egypt’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr will pay a working visit to Moscow on December 27-28, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
“Talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will focus on a wide range of regional and international issues and the challenges facing the Middle East. The foreign ministers will also discuss bilateral issues,” the ministry said.
The ministry noted with satisfaction that “bilateral contacts at the ministerial level are regular” “We seek to maintain close partnership with Egypt, one Russia’s leading partners in the region, amidst transformations in the Middle East and North African states,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the two ministers “will rivet attention to the diplomatic and political settlement of the conflict in Syria, the promotion of the long-term Middle East settlement, the restoration of the Palestinian unity and the creation of a zone, which will be free of weapons of mass destruction.”
“Moscow praises Cairo’s role in all fields and is ready to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in order to find solid solutions to problems,” the ministry said.
Lavrov and Amr will consider “the situation in Egypt where important internal political processes are taking place – the adoption of a new constitution and upcoming parliamentary elections”. In addition, the foreign ministers will discuss “the current state of and prospects for relations with a view to further promotion of mutually advantageous cooperation, including in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields”, the ministry said.
