MOSCOW, December 26 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will consider a bill in retaliation to the Magnitsky Act within two weeks after the Federation Council approves it and submits to the Kremlin for signature, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
“In compliance with the law the president has two weeks to consider the document (after the Federation Council’s approval),” he said.
“It depends on the Federation Council when the bill is submitted to the president for signature,” Peskov said.
In reply to the question whether Putin takes a decision on signing or not signing the bill into law before the new year, he said, “We will see.”
On December 21, the lower house of Russian parliament adopted in the third and final reading the bill banning adoptions of Russian children by U.S. citizens and called for denouncing the Russian-U.S. agreement in this sphere.
The bill was supported by 420 parliamentarians, 7 voted against and one abstained.
The State Duma also approved visa and financial restrictions in relation to persons “who voted for a ban on the entry of Russian citizens to the U.S. and arrest of their assets over their involvement in violation of human rights.”
