KIEV, December 24 (Itar-Tass) — A new government led by Nikolai Azarov has been formed in Ukraine. President Viktor Yanukovich on Monday signed a decree on the line-up of the country’s new cabinet of ministers. Sergei Arbuzov, the former National Bank chief, was appointed the first vice-premier. Yuri Boiko who used to be the energy minister in the former government, and Alexander Vilkul, the former head of the Dnepropetrovsk regional administration, were appointed vice-premiers.
President Yanukovich also appointed several newcomers such as Leonid Kozhara, Ukraine’s new foreign minister; Pavel Lebedev, the minister of defense; Gennady Temnik, the minister of regional development, construction, housing and utilities; Oleg Proskuryakov, the minister of environment and natural resources; Natalya Korolevskaya, the minister of social policies; Elena Lukash, the minister of the cabinet of ministers. Vladimir Kozak, named minister of infrastructure, and Igor Prasolov, named minister of economic development and trade, received their ministerial portfolios for the first time. Eduard Stavitsky, the minister of environment in the previous government, has become the minister of energy and mining industry.
President Yanukovich appointed Alexander Klimenko (the ex-chief of the State Taxation Service) to head the newly-created Ministry of Revenues and Collections and Mikhail Bolotskikh to head of the State Service for Emergency Situations.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Yuri Kolobov, Justice Minister Alexander Lavrinovich, Dmitry Tabachnik, the minister of education and science, Raisa Bogatyryova, the public health minister and Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko have preserved their posts.
The post of the minister of industry that was instituted on Monday remains vacant so far.
