MOSCOW, December 20 (Itar-Tass) — About 2,000 cases against corruption have been initiated in Moscow this year, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
In an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper on Thursday, Sobyanin said, “I believe that it is impossible to fight corruption in the city in full. But it is necessary to struggle against this evil permanently.”
“This year about 2,000 cases against corruption have been initiated in Moscow. In addition, we also conduct staff turnover. If we see a person cannot fulfil the functions, we try to replace him without waiting for serious problems that is why heads of districts are changed rather actively,” Sobyanin said.
In his view, if the administrative inspection reveals violations in housing fund, cleaning yards and roads and if a company and a head of a district do not impose fines and change contractors, “this proves that they have dealings with them”.
According to Sobyanin, permanent complaints of management companies show its corruptness or the bad work by the local authorities. “This is their own rubber-stamping company or they take an unprincipled position. The purpose of law enforcement agencies is to catch them and our task is to take measures when we see that any leader is light fingered or work ineffectively,” the mayor said.
These days Sobyanin has appointed 14 new heads of districts.
