MOSCOW, December 11 (Itar-Tass) — The head of the financial department of the Defense Ministry in the Nizhny Novgorod region and his deputy are suspected of a 23-millin-rouble theft, the press service of the main military investigation department /GVSU/, Investigative Committee, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"Investigators in the Western Military District opened a criminal case over large theft against acting head of the department Col Alexei Pobot, his deputy Maj Alexander Syroyezhko and acting head of the office for settlements with personnel Capt Alfred Prokoshkin," GVSU said.

Pobot is suspected of grand fraud, and Syroyezhko and Prokoshkin are suspected of abetting fraud.

"Searches at offices found financial documents, correspondence with banks and a Federal Treasury department, cash documents, orders on paying bonuses to Department employees, documents on expensive cars and some 10 million roubles," a GVSU representative said.

In April 2011, Syroyezhko and Prokoshkin offered Pobot to give larger bonuses to "trusted persons" who would return part of the sum. Using this scheme, the suspects illegally drew at least 23 million roubles of income. Syroyezhko and Prokoshkin are in custody.
