MOSCOW, December 11 (Itar-Tass) — As many as 92 terrorist crimes were averted in Russia from the beginning of this year, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov said at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee here on Tuesday.
“As many as 92 terrorist crimes were averted in 2012. The activities of several odious warlords, who are involved in the masterminding of several terrorist acts, were suppressed,” he noted.
“Over 600 bandits and their accomplices were detained. This fact assisted in the exposure of such high-profile crimes as the suicide bomb attacks at the metro stations Lubyanka and Park Kultury in 2010, at the Domodedovo airport in 2011, at the road police post in Makhachkala this year and several other crimes,” the FSB director said.
Meanwhile, over 60 people took advantage of an opportunity to get back to the peaceful life and rehabilitate at the special committees for the adaptation of gunmen and their accomplices to the peaceful life. These committees work in several republics in the North Caucasus.
“This preventive measure provides not only an opportunity to curb criminal activities of some members of the gangs, but also permits to intensify the explanatory work among their accomplices,” Bortnikov added.
This year “the downward tendency for the number of terrorist crimes committed in Russia became stronger,” he underlined.
