Police identify journalist Gekkiyev’s murder

MOSCOW, December 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Police have identified one of the suspects in the assassination of Kazbek Gekkiyev, VGTRK’s television journalist in Dagestan, Investigation Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said on Monday, December 10.

“The persons suspected of the attack on journalist Kazbek Gekkiyev has been identified as Zeitun Boziyev, born in 1982 in Nalchik,” he said, adding that measures were being taken to detain him.

Investigators claim that he is a member of a criminal gang and was involved in attacks on policemen.

Gekkiyev, who worked in the daily news programme Vesti KBR, was shot and killed at about 21:00 Moscow time in Nalchik on December 5, on the way home from work. He died at the scene of the crime from fatal wounds inflicted by three gunshots fired by the murderer.

A criminal case was opened. The journalist is believed to have been killed for his professional activities.
