KIEV, December 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovich has nominated Nikolai Azarov for the post of Prime Minister and submitted his candidature to the Verkhovna Rada, or parliament, the presidential website reported on Sunday.

On December 3, Yanukovich accepted resignation of the Azarov’s government after he tendered resignation following his election to the national parliament on October 28. Since the resignation of the prime minister entails the resignation of the entire government, the president dismissed the Cabinet. At the same time, he instructed the current government to carry on until a new government is formed.

The prime minister is appointed by the president with the consent of more than a half of the MPs.

Last week, President Yanukovich said that Azarov had good chances to retain his post. “As for Nikolai Yanovich [Azarov], there is no doubt he is one of the best prime ministers who achieved the best results in his work under different conditions. And he has good chances, but much will depend on whom he brings into his tem,” the president said.

Ukraine’s new parliament will meet for its first session on December 12. According to speaker of the current Verkhovna Rada, Vladimir Litvin, the new government will be formed on December 13 or 14. The new parliament is expected to discuss the appointment of the prime minister and the new government next week.
