Bank robbery attempt thwarted in Ingushetia

MOSCOW, December 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Police thwarted an attempt to rob a bank office in Ingushetia on Saturday, the Russian Interior Ministry’s press centre reported.

At about 05:00 on Saturday morning, in a special operation, three people armed with firearms and grenades were blocked in the village of Nizhniye Achaluki, the Malgobek district, a press centre source said. According to police, the three people planned to rob the office of one of Russia’s major commercial banks.

During the operation, one of the three robbers, 26 years old, set off an explosive device on him and died at the spot. A bank manager was injured in the explosion. He was hospitalized. The other two, 25 and 24 years old, were detained and taken to police stations. A traumatic pistol redesigned to fire live bullets, several magazines with cartridges and grenades were seized from them.

None of the policemen was hurt.

Ingushetian Interior Minister Alexander Trofimov went to the site.
