MOSCOW, December 7 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev says the recent murder of a television anchorman, Kazbek Gekkiyev, in the North Caucasian city of Nalchik is a threat to stabilization in that region.

“It means that much should be changed to bring peace and order to the Caucasus,” Medvedev said in a televised interview on Friday.

According to the prime minister, the very fact of the murder of an ordinary journalist proves that bandits have opted to terrorize not law enforcers or officials but “ordinary people and journalists, seeking to dismay them.”

The investigation of this crime must be brought to its logical end and those responsible must be punished, Medvedev stressed.

He also offered his condolences to Gekkiyev’s employer, the VGTRK national TV and radio broadcaster, and to his family.
