MOSCOW, December 6 (Itar-Tass) — The injured parties have appealed against the verdict for athlete Rasul Mirzayev, sentenced to two years restriction of freedom for manslaughter, lawyer Oksana Mikhalkina told Itar-Tass

"I'm leaving for the Zamoskvorechye court to lodge an appeal against Mirsayev's verdict," Mikhalkina said.

The injured parties asked the Moscow City Court to overturn judge Andrei Fedin's verdict as illegal and unsubstantiated and have a new trial. Also, the appeal notes that the court violated the law by softening the charges against Mirzayev.

"We believe Mirzayev not only was given a very soft penalty, we also oppose the softening of the charges against him," Mikhailkina said.

On Thursday, a summary of the appeal is due to be filed at the court. The full version will follow later.

On August 15, 2011, Mirzayev and student Ivan Agafonov had a row near the Garazh nightclub at around 04:00. Mirzayev, "using professional skills and sport training, deliberately delivered one pointed strike with his left hand in Agafonov's face," the case materials said. The student fell and hit his head of the asphalt. In hospital, he slipped into a coma and died three days later.
