MOSCOW, December 6 (Itar-Tass) — The cargo vessel Volgo-Balt 199 sank in a heavy storm on December 4 in the Black Sea near the village of Sile (Asian suburb of Istanbul), the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday.
“According to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, the cargo ship was built in 1976,” the ministry said. “The ship was flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis (a state in the eastern Caribbean Sea). The ship owner is the Ukrainian company Baltwave 199 Ltd., operator – Ukraine’s OOO Valship company.
The RF Foreign Ministry specified that “there were two Russians and eleven Ukrainian citizens on board.” “As a result of a search and rescue operation Turkish services have rescued four sailors, including a Russian citizen. The search for other crewmembers, including the second Russian, continues,” the ministry said.
Press secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Alexander Dikusarov said on Wednesday that three rescued Ukrainian sailors from the ship's crew have already left the hospital after getting medical care. The rescued Russian sailor remains under the care of medics.
