Cyclone cuts off electricity supply in Sakhalin's two dist's

In Nevelsk District, all boiler-houses have been connected up to a source of emergency power supply

VLADIVOSTOK, December 5 (Itar-Tass) — A powerful cyclone sweeping Sakhalin Island has cut off the supply of electricity in Nevelsk and Dolinsk Districts.

In Nevelsk District, all boiler-houses have been connected up to a source of emergency power supply. The provision of heating and water to poulated areas has not been disrupted, the press service of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) center for Sakhalin Region reported.

In Dolinsk District, the damage control teams of power engineers are working to restore the supply of electyricity.

The cyclone has also intrrupted the operation of the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service. Four ferries, each designed to carry 26 railway cars and 100 passengers, have taken shelter from the storm raging in Tartary Strait (the north of the Japanese archipelago) in harbour areas of Vanino, Sovetskaya Gavan, and at the ports of Khabarovsk Territory.

The airport of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the railway and motor road are functioning in a usual mode.
