Rockslide kills miner in Obukhovskaya mine in Rostov Region

A special commission clarifies circumstances and causes of the incident

ROSTOV-ON-DON, December 2 (Itar-Tass) — A rockslide killed a miner in the Obukhovskaya mine in the Rostov Region.

Donbass Fuel and Energy Company" /DTEK/, which owns the mine, told Itar-tass that the incident occurred a night earlier during extraction of coal.

"The roof collapsed, and an excavator driver, born in 1976, was seriously injured. His life could not be saved," the company said.

A special commission clarifies circumstances and causes of the incident. DTEK’s management offered condolences to relatives of the deceased. The company will provide the family with all necessary assistance.

DTEK is Ukraine’s the largest power company, it is a part of System Capital Management financial-industrial group. DTEK enterprises operate in mining and coal enrichment, in generation, distribution and sales of electricity. The portfolio of coal assets includes 31 mines and 12 coal enrichment plants in Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine and in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation.
