MOSCOW, November 30 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the probe into high-profile corruption cases around the ministry of defence was not a mere campaign and vowed that all conditions would be created to ensure impartial investigation within the legal framework, vice speaker of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house and leader of the United Russia faction Vladimir Vasilyev said on Friday after a meeting with the president.
“After journalists left, a colleague from the Communist faction asked the president whether the investigation of the corruption cases against top-ranking officials was a mere campaign. Vladimir Vladimirovich twice stressed it was not,” Vasilyev said.
According to Vasilyev, the head of state said he was interested in an objective investigation into each of these cases. “Those responsible must be answerable to court, it is up to the court verdict to decide their future fate,” he noted.
“He [Putin] stressed that conditions for that would be created. Thus, he said he had fired [Defence Minister Anatoly] Serdyukov to ensure the objectiveness of the investigation,” Vasilyev added.
