MOSCOW, November 30 (Itar-Tass) —— The death toll from a household gas explosion in a residential house in the Siberian city of Tomsk has risen to two, a spokesman for the regional emergencies department told Itar-Tass on Friday.
“The dead body of another victim was found when fire fighters were putting out the fire that followed the explosion,” the spokesman said.
According to earlier reports, the gas explosion took place in an apartment in a ten-storey residential house. A gas cylinder was used to mount the stretch ceiling in this apartment. The blast destroyed two balconies on the ninth and tenth floors. The floor deck collapsed.
The explosion killed one person. Eight persons, including a 18-month child, were hospitalized with burns of various degree of gravity.
As many as 85 people were evacuated from the house. They will be accommodated at a nearby school.
According to deputy governor of the Tomsk region, Vladimir Zhidkikh, the 18-month infant survived after the blast threw him out of the window of an apartment located on the ninth floor, right in his bed. According to the deputy governor, the house was seriously damaged by the explosion.
