MOSCOW, November 28 (Itar-Tass) — A 71- year-old department chief of Kuban State Medical University has been suspected of driving a mother of a five-month-old child to suicide and inflicting the boy's death, a source from the Investigative Committee (SK) told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The infant was diagnosed as suffering from a brain malady and developing children's palsy with no medical data to confirm the diagnosis. The doctor in question was careless to voice his own perfunctory opinion about the child's mental and physical development in the presence of the mother. The woman shocked to learn the presumed diagnosis strangled the child in a park outside the hospital and stabbed herself in the belly, neck and leg with a table knife. The woman survived thanks to passers-by who called doctors for help.
A criminal case has been opened against the doctor on charges of carelessness which entailed human death.
SK gave no information either about the condition of the child's mother or criminal proceedings against the woman.
