More than 100 new military, 200 civil-purpose spaceships to be placed into orbit before 2020

Social-economic needs of the country’s development demand a significant strengthening of the orbital group of civil-purpose spaceships,Deputy PM said

GORKY, November 26 (Itar-Tass) — In accordance with the State armament program scheduled till 2020 more than 100 new spacecraft including those designed for missile attack warning, communications, cartography, and navigation, are to be put into orbit, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogosin said on Monday at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on space industry development.

“In this period of time we are to considerably renovate the strategic purpose missile troops’ potential”, Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

In his words the social-economic needs of the country’s development demand a significant strengthening of the orbital group of civil-purpose spaceships. It is necessary to launch more than 200 spaceships of the modern component-based spacecraft architecture, he stated. At the moment the total group of Russian spacecraft numbers 118, Rogosin said.
