MOSCOW, November 26 (Itar-Tass) — Russia for two years has been designing an advanced nuclear-powered aircraft-carrying heavy cruiser that is to become one of the most important elements of the country’s national security at sea, a source in the RF Governmental Military-Industrial Commission told journalists on Monday.
“The Russian Navy needs an aircraft-carrying cruiser of the future, which would be decades ahead of the present time, and not just be an analogue of the modern aircraft carriers of the United States and other countries,” he pointed out.
“The main requirement for such ship is the ‘multipurpose nature’ that is, this vessel should be capable of operating in all the environments – space, air, water, ground and submarine environment,” the source emphasised.
