TEL-AVIV, November 26 (Itar-Tass) — A group of Russian experts on Sunday arrived in Ramallah (West Bank) where the exhumation of the remains of the first Head of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Yasser Arafat, will take place on Tuesday, an informed source in Ramallah told Itar-Tass.
The procedure had initially been scheduled for Monday, but then the date was changed. The exhumation will be conducted in a closed to the press and public regime, and after taking samples Arafat’s body will be returned to the mausoleum with appropriate honours.
The decision on opening the grave of the Palestinian leader was taken at the request of his widow Soha over the suspicions and indirect evidence that Arafat could have been poisoned with polonium-210. At the request of the Palestinian Authority, three groups of specialists – from Russia, France and Switzerland will in parallel conduct examination of the taken samples.
Earlier, the head of the international team of doctors that have for many years studied the circumstances surrounding the death of Arafat, Tawfiq Al-Tirawi, said that “it may take several months” to draw the final conclusions on the results of the forthcoming exhumation.
