CHELYABINSK, November 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Massive disorders were averted on the territory near a penitentiary in the town Kopeisk in the Chelyabinsk Region, 26 people were detained, the press service of the Chelyabinsk regional police department reported on Sunday.
The regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service reported earlier that, on November 24, 250 prisoners of the penitentiary number six (the town Kopeisk) demand a looser imprisonment regime, particularly the release of several convicts from the punishment cell, after the latter were brought there for the violations of the prison rules.
“Before the dinnertime at 11:30 Moscow time on November 24 at the tough security penitentiary number six in the town Kopeisk 250 convicts in six groups went into the corridor of the prison residential zone and made illegal demands to loosen the imprisonment regime, particularly release several convicts from the punishment cell, after the latter were brought there for the violations of the prison rules,” the regional department said in a statement.
After that the relatives of the convicts met at the territory adjacent to the penitentiary.
The top brass of the Chelyabinsk regional police department, reinforced police patrols and riot police commandoes rushed to the incident site to ensure the public order and avert any offences.
“Several hours later a greater part of relatives of the convicts left the territory next to the penitentiary. Drunken young people, who were staying near the penitentiary, were attempting to violate the public order and were crying out uncensored words. Finally 26 people were detained by the police and were brought to the police departments in Kopeisk and Chelyabinsk for filing administrative protocols against them. Now the situation at the penitentiary is under control of the police department and the Federal Penitentiary Service department in the Chelyabinsk Region,” the press service of the regional police department reported.
