MOSCOW, November 24 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow watches the development of the situation in Egypt and recommends Russian citizens staying the country to avoid dangerous areas, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Saturday.
On Friday, protest actions occurred in several cities of Egypt – in Cairo and Alexandria. According to coming reports, hundreds of people were injured. “The opposition declared an ongoing strike in Cairo and demanded the Egyptian president’s decree on the changes to the Constitutional Declaration be cancelled. [The Constitutional Declaration gives exceptional powers to the head of state in order to ‘protect the revolution’ and suspend the right of juridical bodies to dissolving the upper house of parliament and the Constitutional Commission],” the ministry said.
Moscow watches the development of the situation in Egypt. “It is extremely important to preserve national accord and resolve the existing problems and settle the disagreements amidst social reforms through constructive dialogue with the participation of all leading political forces and in compliance with fundamental human rights and freedoms,” the ministry said.
To this end, the Russian ministry “recommends Russian citizens staying in Egypt to avoid the areas where massive protest actions were held. The ministry also recommends Russian tourists to refrain from trips round the country”.
