MOSCOW, November 24 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow is worried by NATO’s plans for deploying Patriot air defense systems in Turkey, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and NATO’s Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Friday. The conversation was requested by NATO.

Rasmussen “informed about the situation following Turkey’s request addressed to NATO for the deployment of air defense complexes Patriot in its territory.”

Lavrov “confirmed Russia’s concerns over plans for building up military potentials in the region and the proposal for establishing a direct communication line between Ankara and Damascus for the purpose of avoiding incidents,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Also, the two sides discussed preparations for the ministerial level meeting of the Russia-NATO Council due in Brussels on December 4.
